On the stage of global trade, maritime transport, as a vital mode of transport, is significantly different from other modes of transport.

First of all, in terms of transport capacity, the advantages of maritime transport are extremely prominent. Maritime transport can carry a large amount of cargo, and the cargo capacity of large container ships can reach tens of thousands of tons or even hundreds of thousands of tons. In contrast, the transportation volume of land transport is relatively limited. Whether it is a truck for road transport or a train for rail transport, it is difficult to compare with the giant ships in terms of cargo capacity. Although air transport is fast, it is limited by the cargo hold space of the aircraft, and the cargo capacity is far less than that of sea transport.

In terms of transportation costs, maritime transport is also obviously competitive. Since maritime transport can transport goods on a large scale, the cost allocated to each unit of goods is low. For some low-priced and heavy commodities, such as ore, coal, bulk building materials, etc., maritime transport is the preferred mode of transportation. Air transport is expensive and is usually only applicable to high-value and time-sensitive goods, such as electronic products, fresh food, etc.; land transport costs are moderate, but the cost is relatively high for long-distance transportation.

In terms of transportation speed, sea transportation is relatively slow. It may take weeks or even months for a cargo ship to travel from its departure point to its destination, which is not suitable for some urgently needed goods. Air transportation is the fastest and can deliver goods to all parts of the world in a short time, but it is also the most expensive. The speed of land transportation is between sea transportation and air transportation, depending on the transportation distance and traffic conditions.

In addition, sea transportation has a wide coverage and can reach almost any city with a port in the world, which can closely connect various countries and regions. However, land transportation and air transportation are relatively narrow in coverage and are limited by geographical conditions and infrastructure.

Understanding the difference between sea transportation and other modes of transportation will help foreign trade companies choose the most appropriate mode of transportation based on the characteristics of their own goods, cost budget and delivery time, so as to ensure the smooth transportation of goods and the benefits of the company.
